Uses of ultraviolet light
Although excessive ultraviolet light is harmful to the human body, moderate exposure to sunlight is beneficial to human health. In addition, it has a very wide range of uses in industrial production.
Sterilization and disinfection: ultraviolet light has strong sterilization and disinfection effects, and can be used for water treatment, air purification and surface disinfection. Hospital operating rooms and industrial clean rooms will use UV lamps for air disinfection.
Printing light curing: In the printing industry, ultraviolet light can be used for light curing ink to improve the printing effect and printing quality.
Synthesis of vitamin D: the human body after sun exposure, the skin can synthesize vitamin D, especially UVB can promote vitamin D production. Moderate sun exposure is conducive to the synthesis of vitamin D and bone health.
Cosmetic production: The development of many sunscreen cosmetics is based on the study of UV characteristics. UV light is also used to test the sun protection factor of sunscreen products.
Other uses: UV is also used in monomer polymerization reactions; as an excitation light source for fluorescence; in the manufacture of fluorescent lamps and black lights; and in the detection of security markings on stamps, documents and banknotes.
Treatment of skin diseases: In medicine, UV therapy can be used to treat certain skin diseases such as ringworm, eczema and neurodermatitis. In low doses and under control, ultraviolet light has the effect of promoting local skin blood circulation and immune function.
